DAY ONE:

Today is my first day in a week full of mindfulness. As a student, I often forget to take care of myself and this blog will hopefully help me hold myself accountable.

I decided to dedicate today to breathing exercises since they are the first thing in every beginner’s guide. My personal favorite is the equal breathing technique. (Check out a more detailed description under the “breathe” tab!)

As soon as I wake up, I check my phone and the anxiety starts. I saw emails from professors of upcoming due dates, reminders from my to-do list, and some friends inviting me to go to the beach with them. Before I let all this get to my head and try to solve all of it at once, I practice mindfulness!

I breathe in for five seconds and out for five seconds. I repeated this process for five minutes while listening to my favorite playlist. It made waking up a more relaxing experience and I felt a little more ready to tackle the day.
